Flowlayer 3.0-final is coming

Nov 19, 2008 by Anssi

We are almost ready to release Flowplayer 3.0. There have been three release candidates and the fourth one is in the works and should be out tomorrow or the the day after that. We started with a private beta period and invited some of our license owners to participate in testing. During that time we fixed a few bugs and started feeling that the product is quite stable. To get more assurance that it really is stable we decided to continue with a public beta and released this new site under the domain beta.flowplayer.org. The news was announced in our old site and after that we got a big jump in the traffic to the beta site. And a lot more users started testing and experimenting with our new product.

With Flowplayer 3 we are releasing a lot of new stuff: The core player is completely redesigned and reimplemented, this site and the forums are new, and the web store is new. That's why we want to make sure that things are rock solid.

We continued with Release Candidate 1 and started selling commercial licenses. A lot of licenses were sold and we fixed some issues in the license key logic. Flowplayer 3 has gone through a lot of testing now. No more release candidates except for one.

Release Candidate 4 (RC4) will be out tomorrow. There has been some heavy traffic in our new forums and based on the feedback we have tweaked and fixed the player, plugins and the tools. Flash plugin development has begun and based on the experience some tweaks have been made to the ActionScript API. The feedback from plugin developers and others also lead us to the decision to make it all Open Source - the core player has been open source for a week now. Yesterday we opened a Subversion repository for all boost up the development efforts.

Stay tuned. RC4 tomorrow. 3.0-final next week.
