Player works great in IE7, not at all in Firefox

Posted: Aug 9, 2009

I have installed the bare bones newby version of Flowplayer, followed installation directions carefully, made no alterations whatsoever other than to insert the path to video I want to play on Web page, and insert absolute paths to Flowplayer files. Everything works fine in IE7 but doesn't work at all in Firefox.

I saw the note about correcting Javascript security settings but it says that applies to using Flowplayer locally, and my problem is with web installation using Firefox. I have checked and doublechecked all the pathnames and existence of files on server and they are correct, but anyway, that the player works fine on IE7 tells me the problem is not with paths or existence of files.

I tried to take the advice to check the installation with Firebug in Firefox but I don't comprehend anything I see there (blush). Can someone tell me what to look for? I'm also unclear what I might have to add on to Firefox, if anything.

Patience, please - I'm starting from complete ignorance!

You provide no example page or code, and aren't specific about what's happening (other than to say it "doesn't work") so it's not possible to provide any additional assistance here. Anything except very generic - and probably useless - advice for things like verifying you have Flash properly installed (it's a different version of Flash between Firefox and IE), you're not running AdBlock, NoScript, or some other Firefox add-in, etc.

If you'd care to leave a link to your page maybe someone can see what's wrong. Otherwise...

I'm getting the same problem. None of the examples at flowplayer.org are playing for me on FF, linux or windows, but they play fine on IE and Opera.

This page:http://flowplayer.org/demos/installation/index.html
just shows a large blank area where the player should be, while this page:http://flowplayer.org/documentation/skinning/
shows the players and splash images, but clicking them never loads the actual movie (stays on the images of the hat & feet)

Other pages (like this onehttp://flowplayer.org/plugins/flash/content.html) show a bit more - the control bar comes up, but shows 0:27 of 2:04 loaded, 50% volume, and is also totally inoperable.

Is this a problem only for me? I've got flash 10.0.32.18 on one machine and 10.0.22.87 on another...

Cheers, Jeff

Working for me on FF in Windows. Also using 10r32.

Do videos play using other players? YouTube okay? How about any site that uses JW Player?

Youtube and other big video sharing sites are fine. jwplayer is a bit flaky (trouble there is what caused me to come looking here). Videos play fine in jw in the very basic form, but javascript interactions are very fragile...

My main machine is a basic ubuntu jaunty box with nothing fancy done to it. The windows box is Vista.
