Minimum requirements

Posted: Aug 25, 2009

Hi!

I want to start using Flowplayer. But there's a problem. What happen if I'm limited to use just the Flash Player 6 version (considering that nobody in our company it's authorized to upgrade)? Even that way, flowplayer will function?

What are the minimum requirements?

I'll be really thankful for your help!

Flowplayer requires Flash 9 or later.

Flash 6 is *horribly* insecure. You'd have to be crazy to want to keep using it in any environment where security is taken seriously. (Don't take this as an insult, I'm merely trying to be helpful here!)

My advice is if users cannot update Flash, it's better to remove it completely. That would be preferable to leaving it on people's machines.

Secondarily, version 6 ONLY supports the very oldest FLV format, Sorenson Spark. On2 VP6 and H.264 format, which comprise a growing majority of videos you'll find, are not supported. They simply won't play. You'll need Flash 8 for VP6, and v 9 r115 or later for H.264.

Thanks GMCCOMB, your answer helped me a lot. But let me ask you something else: What kind of security problems could my company have using Flash 6? This will be extremely useful for stimulate an upgrade.

Thanks!
