Totally confused

Posted: Aug 22, 2010

I've been playing with the site here, trying to figure out how to use the flowplayer on my site. I really need help as I'm stuck.

I picked the settings I'd like to design the flowplayer skin and such. I took the code from "GET EMBED CODE" and put it in my code. That created a blank white square on my page.

Okay, so I see the "Build player" button on the bottom, and I hit that. I took the code in each of the boxes and put them in my code. This must be wrong as there's still just a blank box on my page.

I tried to get back to that direction page, but this message is there:
"Limit of free setups exceeded. For unlimited use of the setup tool you need a Commercial License."

I find the directions to be out of my league. Are there any step by step directions for a non-techie person? What do I need to do here?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Videoman1, definitely follow the directions as Anssi suggests. However, if you always get a blank screen no matter what you do, I wonder if you're not having the same problem as me?

I've also just started out & am having exactly the same problem. As far as I can tell I've followed the directions to the letter and still can't get it to work on my site. I also get a blank screen each time. I'd be interested to see if you guys figure out what the problem is. Its probably something simple and I'd really like to get this working on my site.

Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

Frankly I'm giving up at this point. I find the directions to be above my head though I'm able to create a site using expression web, CSS and HTML. There's no way to contact them for support without paying, and I'm not even sure what I'd get if I paid. I appear to be locked out anyway due to max uses, even though I've not been able to create one good player.

I'm looking into other players. If that doesn't work out, I'd need to hire someone to create that page for me.

In fact does anyone know of another player that is more user friendly?

These postings are intimidating me! I am exploring getting Flowplayer running on my own, but am not optimistic.

I got FP working about a week ago, in all browsers except certain flavors of IE8, now - NOT HAVING CHANGED ANYTHING - it won't work in IE period. That is probably an IE issue, I don't know, but I've been following the exact procedure I used before with FP 3.2.3, and I am now even just copying and pasting their code (with scripts and player in place); still no joy - in any browser - and life's too short. Goodbye, Flowplayer, it's been good to know you.

I have absolutely no problems in installing this player - it works on every browser mac or pc. Im using different types of player functionality from standalone, to multi player options and playlists and I am also using it in HTML5 for flash fall back.

Im sorry but all of these postings sound like user/installation error. Probably caused by
a) not changing the default settings to your own website settings,
b) not installing your own versions of scripts
and/or
c) not installing your own version of the swf.

The only problem that I actually have is getting the code to validate to XHTML. Other than that - it works perfectly.

Bully for you. It worked fine for me too, then it stopped. My scripts and pages hadn't been changed. That may well be nothing to do with FP, but that sort of flakey behaviour with IE makes it too unreliable.

Yup - bully for me

And if its of any interest - the upgrade version of the player requires a fraction of the code that its predecessor did, so even you might be able to install it!
