Amazon S3 as CDN for Flowplayer?

Posted: Feb 17, 2010

Hi,

I use Flowplayer today for streaming my videos, but I have no seeking possibilities before the movie is downloaded. I have understood that I need a CDN to do this. I read through this page:http://flowplayer.org/plugins/streaming/cdn.html but I would like to use Amazon S3. Is that possible? If not, which CDN will you recommend that I use with flowplayer?

Is there any guide on how to get Flowplayer to work with a CDN (Amazon S3 or any other)?

Thanks

engern

Hello,
I would check out MaxCDN. They have a great deal going at the moment.

The configuration shown here will work for most rtmp environments: http://flowplayer.org/plugins/streaming/rtmp.html

You can find a "quickstart" tutorial on streaming from Amazon S3/Cloudfront at streamingmedia.com, with a working example of Cloudfront Streaming here.

The example uses JW Player as the player, but configuring Flowplayer would be very similar.

Thanks for posting the information lbouthillier. I've used JW Player before and am going to compare using Flowplayer moving forward but want to be able to use Amazon's S3 storage as a CDN.

Not sure if it's what you are looking for, but I've seen and worked on successful Amazon CDN powered Flowplayer.

The video itself was served from Amazon, while the flowplayer resided locally.

Overall performance was marginally better, but the global presence was a big deal -- and large videos the performance difference started to show.
