Local settings working in version 2, but not version 3

Posted: Jun 18, 2009

Hi
We've recently upgraded to v3, but find that when creating CD-ROMs the player won't work locally without adjusting local flash settings.

Asking tens-of-thousands of end users to adust their flash settings, and providing customer support means that the latest player is not a viable option. Curiously v2 does not present this problem, but I see that it is no longer available for download from this site or your old site.

Any chance that you could fix this in v3, and keep providing v2 until this issue is resolved?

Thanks

This was discussed in another thread just a few days ago. About the only thing that comes to mind is to try a utility such as Abobe's Local Content Updater to change the network flag in Flowplayer (and any plugin SWFs you may use) from Network sandbox to Local sandbox.

There are other other utilities that also do this (such as the MTASC compiler), and any of these are worth a shot.

The fact that FP 2.x worked locally probably means its sandbox was set to Local. That's okay, as it'll still play videos on the Web, but then it will restrict network communcations, such as GetURL when the URL points to a network resource. (Or, it was compiled for a pre-Flash 8 version, which may have had less restrictive security; obviously that is not an option for an ongoing product.)

As far as resolving the issue, there is nothing to resolve, as this is how Flash security works. It's either Local or Network, and you have to live with the restrictions of whatever sandbox environment it's set at.

Hello,

I am creating an interactive cd and I wish to include flowplayer within the CD, but I'm having the same issue trying to access the content from a relative filepath (i.e. "/videos"). But I guess the flash security settings are interfering with the playback.

I've read that I can change my swf player security settings but as this is a distribution cd is there a way that the users can just watch the videos without each of them changing their security settings?

Thanks in advance.
