Flow Player loads part and play only part of video

Posted: Mar 20, 2009

Hi... I am new to this forum thing and I am new to video streaming. I am having bit of problem getting my videos to play and load fully... I have videos of about 45 seconds, and I have videos of about 2 minutes, and I come up with the same problem all the time. When I go to my site, and click to play the video, the player comes up, which means that everything is installed correctly, the video seems to want to load and then after a few momemts of loading it suddenly stops loading and the search bar shows that it has loaded fully, but then it only plays part of it - like seven seconds (but it changes all the time.) I tried many different videos, I even tried downloading a video from another site and playing it on my site, still the same problem.

I looked around a bit and read that it could have something to do with the Apache compression on the server, but my hosting company tells me that they do mot use compression as a default. Now I do not know if I need to compress them to load properly and I really do not know how to compress tham via HTML code. if there is anyone who knows what the problem is on this please be so kind as to help out, I am relly stuck here and I need to get this site running in about one week - maybe two for the latest, PLEASE help!!!!!!!

Thank in advance for all answers to this post...

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

We'd be able to take a look if you could provide some sample code and a live URL. Also, as this may come down to the video itself please provide details of the video encoding used and how your streaming the videos to the player.

Thanks,
Liam

Hi

I am having exactly the same issue on my own web site see
http://flowplayer.org/forum/search.html?query=truncated+video

I have tried another manufactures player and there are reams of similar threads on the same issue in their Forums too. No one there seems to have the answer. My problem only started when my web designer added more flv files.

I tried reducing the data rate that appear to help but the problem is still there from time to time.

It can also affect downloading files from the server. Another day it will be fine .

I have noticed the buffer indicator suddenly jumps to the end and the video stops at the point it jumped. When this happens if I clear cache and try again and I'm lucky it may work ok. It seems that if the streaming process is held up for any lenght of time it, this caused the problem and the local computer thinks it has all the video when it does not.

I used the following compression in Sorenson Squeeze
Franhofe MPp3 64 Kbps, sample size 16 sample rate 20050 stereo

Vision:
Codex On2VP6 Pro 2 Pass CBR
615 Kbps, 45 key frames per second

>45 key frames per second

Not possible.

Do you mean a keyframe every 4.5 seconds? If so that's kinda low. Shoot for no less than one keyframe every 1-3 seconds.

Could you provide a live URL to a *specific* page on your site that exhibits this problem. It's not fun trying to click on things to find the example you're talking about!

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry that was a typo it should read a key frame every 45 frames

Here are some URL to some longer clips that display the problem from time to time. In truth they all do but the longer the file the more likely it is to happen.

I got the problem to repeat on the longer file.

I think your server is timing out. Rather than wrestle with your host right now, see if you can move the flv (nothing else) to another server and try it there. If your ISP gives you a free Web page that would be a good start. Any host with reasonable speed will do.

You might also try *temporarily* stealing an FLV off a tube site and hotlinking to it. I'm not going to suggest which one here, but try one (not YouTube), look at the source for the .flv file, and try that in your code.

If the files don't halt up, then you know it's your server. Contact your host with your findings.

Hi Ron or Shaun,

Did you guys figure out what the problem was? I'm having the exact same issue on my site. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just stops loading halfway. The link is

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks,
