Missing support item, non-working demos on this site

Posted: Jan 18, 2011

Love Flowplayer (excellent features, great support/forums), and have the following questions:

1. Support item:
We bought a license for the commercial player and had one support item, but when I logged into my account it was gone. Do support items expire a certain time after a 1 domain license is purchased? I might need support for a problem that I am currently having if I am not able to solve it on my own (or with help through the forums).

2. Broken demos:
I also wanted to know how I could get the contact information from someone at flowplayer regarding broken demos, or at the very least, how do I report broken pages/demos on this site?

For example, the following demo results in a 301 error (unable to load bwcheck plugin). Apparently the plugin is not in the specified location or the code contains the wrong url to the plugin:
http://flowplayer.org/demos/plugins/streaming/bwcheck-dynamic-fms.htm

There are others.

Thanks.

Thanks Tero.

1. Didn't see it there before. Thanks.

2. I have viewed just about every demo on your website and not all of them work. Who can I report these kind of errors to? Send me an email at cgarcia@tenafly.k12.nj.us if you don't want to post here.

Once again, thank you.

I don't know where to find my product key? I've been searching the site for hours trying to find out where I can get it? I read somewhere that I should be able to find it through my account, but it doesn't give me many options there. I'm spinning my wheels and need help so that I can set up my vids without the flowplayer watermark.

Thanks,
mackster

Look under commercial licenses

When you log into your account there should be a small box on the upper right hand with your account name and the following categories: personal info, commercial licenses, ect. Your number does not appear when you click the commercial licenses link?

The demo video file URLs are still down. It sure would be nice to be able to play demos - I'll be using cuepoints soon.

Tero: I cannot submit support item

Tero: I have been trying to submit a support item for about two weeks now, but I can only currently post answers to threads and cannot start a new support thread for some reason. Can you help me with this please?

My experience with Flowplayer thus far has been very positive (especially in contrast to another player that shall remain nameless). That said,

1. there are problems with some of the demos (see my original post). Demos are the easiest way to noobs like me to get started, so it is essential that they work.

2. Glaring omissions on the kinds of demos on the site. I realize that you can't foresee every possible configuration or ways the flowplayer will be used or to have a demo for all of those possible configurations, but some configurations are obvious.
*For example, 99% of the demos are for configuring a page to play a single file in a single player, but there is almost no guidance for those that want to use a single player to play multiple streams on the same page (look at the RTMP demos, the playlist demo being the one obvious exception to this).

Another example, the tabbed player demo is configured to play a single file, but what if you want to use this with an RTMP playlist so that each player in the tabs can play multiple files form an RTMP playlist? This seems like an obvious use of this feature to me.
http://flowplayer.org/demos/tools/tabbed-players.htm

etc.

3. The demos take for granted that newbies might be trying to follow them and sometimes skip major steps that are required in order to make them work.
* For examaple, the bandwidth check from an RSS/smil file demos make no mention of the crossdomain policies that have to be set in order to allow the player to access a playlist form an external file (crossdomain.xml file must be added to server inr order for the player to be able to read the bitrates.xml file). This should me explicitly pointed out on these demos as it is an essential step without which the bandwidth check from an external smil/rss file demos will not work. This might be obvious to flash gurus, but not to noobs like me.

4. there seems to be no way of directly contacting anyone associated with flowplayer. I know that is what support items are for, so maybe this is the way things are.

Thanks.

What happens when you attempt to post a support item? What browser? JavaScript enabled? We can see new support requests appearing all the time so this might be a browser issue or something.

Thank you for the demo suggestions! Makes sense. The idea should be that you first "build" your player: configure playlist, streaming and looks and then start browsing trough the demos with that player. I've had this on my mind quite some time actually and is on the list of things to do.

Can"t start a new forum thread or submit support item

When I try to submit a support item or start a new forum thread by clicking save, nothing happens (just tried it). The lower right corner of the browser says "Done" and nothing changes. I can reply to already existing threads, but cannot start any new ones. I've tried submitting my question from work and from home using the latest versions of Firefox, Safari, Chrome (Mac and PC) and Internet Destroyer 8.

Thank you for your help Tero.
