Flowplayer code borken on IE8 Win7 64bits (at least)

Posted: Nov 16, 2009

Hi,

It seems there is a bug in Flowplayer's (javascript?) code with IE8. This page does not load:http://flowplayer.org/demos/installation/index.html

It works fine under Firefox. My Win7 is a really fresh install with default settings.

Are you testing that page with IE8 64bit? If so try testing it with the IE8 32bit. Both versions of IE should come with 64bit win 7.

With IE8 64bit on my win7 64bit install half the "internets" is broke.
I never looked into why as I never use it as my main browser. And generally I use win7 32 bit install due to some applications I run conflicting. IE 64bit in vista gave me the same issues. Though I never used vista much.

I wasn't even aware Adobe has released a 64bit OCX player.

I was under the impression this was something coming with Flash 10.1.

No one did! I've had it for two years and only used it occasionally. I really like Win7, though, and plan to migrate to it. The machine and OS is, however, 32 bit. Too much is broken in 64 bit land. The idea's nice, but the reality is somewhat painful.

I keep waiting for windows 64bit anything to do something special. But other than allowing access to more ram I've yet to be wowed. My win7 64bit install boots up using around 900mb of ram. The win7 32bit boots at 380-425mb. I'm only using 560mb now as I type this.

The apps I use don't require or benefit from running 64 bit unfortunately. Though I do hope this "benefiting from" changes.

I do run a few db servers with 64bit linux distro's but that's only because they need several gigs of ram for memcache and mysql caching options ect. And linux is a whole different story.

Vista itself was just wrong lol. I purchased a 3 pack when it came out. What a mistake. It still isn't what I would consider stable. And the wow "windows on windows" in 64bit was a big performance killer in vista. It seems to work better in win7 but I've yet to really test it.

99% of users don't need 64bit, and with the lower ram usage of win7 I see little reason to use it. But that's just me.

Yes, DBs should rock in 64 bit, assuming the SQL driver is solid for that version.

Video editing/encoding is also a good application, if you do enough of it to make a difference. I'd probably fine-tune a 64 bit box for the express purpose of using it as an encoding station, but I wouldn't try to use it for anything else.

Okay I got it fixed, but I can't post how to do it, the forum constantly rejects me as spammer.

PS: Win7 64bits is very good for video editing if app supports 64bits. It cuts down by 30% my encoding times

Hrm 30%?

What app are you running?
I compiled a 64 bit x264 and ran it via a 64 bit gui. I only gained 8-10% at the most. Avg 3-6fps more doing a 720p encode with pretty brutal settings. While the additional 3-6fps can add up when doing 4gb encodes it wasn't a mind blowing.

Sony Vegas MainConcept encoder.

Maybe it's not only the 64bits supports that helped. It improved moving from Vegas8 32bits on XP 32bits, to Vegas 9 64bits on Win7 64 bits. Vegas is also much more responsive than before and loads a lot quicker.

I think that Vegas9 32bits already has a good speed increase over Vegas 8 32 bits.

Put it another way: Vegas 8 was that slow, that 30% improvement was achievable ;-)
