I've setup the apple overlay, but it doesn't appear to be working, I just get the following error:

Error: uncaught exception: Overlay: cannot find effect : "apple"

Can anyone explain to me what I might be looking for in order to resolve this?

Did you download the apple plugin. it is not part of the default download, you have to expressly add it to the bundle.
